Test your knowledge about the New Portuguese Language Spelling Agreement

Translation Associations News: online test about the new Portuguese language spelling agreementPortuguese Language Translation Agency AP | Portugal has conceived a free test on the New Spelling Agreement, which can be taken online. In order to check out how much you know about the international treaty for Portuguese language, signed in 1990 and officially at use by the Portuguese Government since January 2012, all you have to do is “Like” APP’s Facebook page.

This online test was the innovative way APP found to disclose their coaching options for professionals and companies about the new rules, both in person (this session generally lasts up to 4 hours) and from home (online).

The coaching sessions “are a good solution for all Portuguese language translation associations”, says APP’s CEO, Mário Júnior. Besides being a great choice for any translators community, this online coaching, Junior stresses, is also the most efficient and financially rewarding tool to inform the public in general.

Ten minutes is all it takes to answer the 15 questions about the main changes introduced by the agreement, such as the new alphabet for Portuguese language, the use of capital letters, the graphic suppression of mute or non-articulated consonants, the changes in graphic accentuation and the alterations concerning the use of the hyphen.

In the end, you are told whether you have passed or failed APP’s interactive test and even your grade.

In the future, this interpretation, transcription, subtitling and translation agency intends to publish an essay on how deep has this spelling agreement penetrated the Portuguese speaking world.

These figures will be made available (free of charge) to all translators associations or translation societies within the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).

The main goal of the New Portuguese Language Spelling Agreement is to unify the ortography in all Portuguese speaking countries. It was signed by the Lisbon Academy of Science, the Brazilian Letters Academy, and by delegations from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor, which joined after independence, in 2004.
