Translators Associations Europe: Catalonia (Spain)Catalonia is an autonomous region of Spain in the north-east of the Iberian Peninsula, comprising four provinces – Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona –, and has around 7 million inhabitants.

Its capital and largest city is Barcelona, which is the second largest Spanish city by population after Madrid.

The official languages of Catalonia are Catalan, Spanish and Aranese (Occitan).

Catalonia is the birth place of famous artists like Salvador Dalí or Antoni Tàpies, the shining architect Antoni Gaudí, the soprano Montserrat Caballé and writers like Mercè Rodoreda or Josep Pla.

ATIJC is a translators association that was established in 1992 to bring together sworn translators and interpreters. Founded initially only for people who worked in Catalonia, this translators association based in Barcelona currently welcomes members of all regions.

APTIC was founded in 2009, as a result of the fusion of two general translators associations. This translators association is an independent, non-profit organization, open to professionals from the sector, with academic background or proven experience.
