University of Manchester's Translation Studies Seminars continue

Translation Association News: University of Manchester CTIS seminarsThe Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies (CTIS) of the University of Manchester presents another series of seminars, continuing the weekly initiative that began in 1997.

Fifteen to eighteen speakers, both from the UK and abroad, are invited to travel to this Northern city every year. The event’s purpose is for them to share their current research with the attentive audience.

According to the organization, the programme is designed “each year to cover a wide range of topics, specialisms and languages.”

This set of events allows those who attend (both freelancers and members of translators associations) the chance to update their knowledge on the most recent studies “in the fields of translation, interpreting and intercultural studies”. Moreover, some of the most important scholars in the subjects are present. When you think it couldn’t get better, you realise that attendance is free of charge and you don’t have to register in advance.

During the next six months, all interested will be able to attend seminars on themes like “Translating Gender, Translating French Feminism - Tahar Ben Jelloun and Annie Ernaux in English “,”The Acquisition of Expertise in Interpreting: Neurophysiological Correlates”, “Translation and Creativity: A Case Study in Digital (Re)presentation”, etc. The whole list is available on CTIS’s website.

For the current semester, the seminars take place on Thursday afternoons, from 2pm to 3.20pm, in the Samuel Alexander Building, University of Manchester.

If you wish to remain informed about each and every seminar, the University of Manchester can send you abstracts on a weekly basis, before each session. All you have to do is email your name and address to siobhan.brownlie@manchester.ac.uk and join CTIS’s mailing list. There’s also information on Twitter and Facebook.

Apart from the seminars, the Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies of the University of Manchester also runs a Professional Development Workshop series for MA students.
