Greece: Translators associations in the cradle of Western civilization

Translators Associations Europe: GreeceModern Greece traces its roots to the civilization of ancient Greece. In Southern Europe, the country is politically considered part of Western Europe and has in Athens its capital and largest city.

Greece has the 11th longest coastline in the world, a vast number of islands, and land borders with Albania, Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north, and Turkey to the east.

Eighty percent of its territories are mountains, of which Mount Olympus is the highest at 2,917 meters.

Greece is a developed country, member of the European Union since 1981, with a population of 10,5 million people and high standards of living.

Lexis estimates there are at least 3 national translators associations in Greece:

Established in Thessaloniki in 1963, the Panhellenic Association of Translators is the oldest professional translators association in Greece. 

EKEMEL is a translators association that strives for a closer contact between Greek and foreign literatures, through numerous and diverse activities.

There's also a translators association called PEEMPIP that promotes the interests of all translators who have graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting of the Ionian University.
