Italy: Translators associations in the country of wine and pasta

Translators Associations Europe: ItalyWith 57.6 million inhabitants, the country of wine and pasta has more Unesco World Heritage sites than any other country on earth and is well known by its cities of art, like Rome, Venice and Florence.

But this mediterranean country does not rest on its artistic laurels. Italy is largely homogeneous linguistically and religiously but is diverse culturally, economically, and politically.

Milan is another Italian city that stands out, as it is a financial hub that hosts one of Europe’s biggest and most modern trade fairs.

The republic is the fifth-highest population density in Europe and a founding member of the European Union.

Lexis estimates there are at least 11 translators associations in Italy.

AIDAC is the Italian translators association that stands up for the rights of audiovisual script translators and adaptors.

The Italian Association of Translators and Interpreters (AITI) was founded in 1950 and is a non-profit association of translators and interpreters.

The Italian National Association of Translators and Interpreters (ANITI) was founded in Milan in 1956, under the designation Italian National Syndicate of Translators and Interpreters (SNITI).

UNILINGUE is a translators association that was born from the merging of two great Italian organisations: Federcentri and Imprelingue.

A translators association called AssITIG brings together legal translators and court interpreters and was born in Syracuse only in 2010

ANIMU is a translators association based in Naples. This translators association was born at the hands of a group of professionals who were starting to feel the need to regulate training in Sign Language Interpretation. 

Also in Naples, CILIS is the only national translators association established exclusively by professionals specialized in interpreting for the deaf.
ANIOS is a non-profit and non-political translators association that represents all interpreters working with at least the following languages: Italian and Italian Sign Language.

The National Association of Translators and Interpreters of the Ministry of the Interior (ANTIMI) brings together all the professionals working in the Italian Ministry of the Interior.

Finally, there is the National Association of Translators in South Tyrol (LDÜ-UPT), based in Bolzano, the capital of the north Italian province, and ASSOINTERPRETI, a translators association dedicated to conference interpreters.
