Colombia: Translators associations from the country of Gabriel García Márquez

Translators Associations Latin AmericaColombia is a unitary constitutional republic comprising thirty-two departments. The country is located in northwestern South America and is the fourth largest in this region after Brazil, Argentina and Peru.

It has over 46 million people, a number that makes Colombia the second largest population of any Spanish-speaking country in the world, after Mexico.

The renowned writer Gabriel García Márquez – Nobel Prize for Literature –, the pop singers Shakira and Juanes, the sportsmen Juan Pablo Montoya and Camilo Villegas and the actress Sofía Vergara are some of the cultural ‘ambassadors’ of Colombia.

Lexis estimates there are at least 2 translators associations in Colombia.

The Colombian Association of Translators (CCT) was established as a non-profit association in 1990 by independent translators. The purpose of this translators association is to bring together independent translators and interpreters in Colombia, represent, defend their interests and have the translation recognized as a profession. 

A translators association called ACTI is a professional guild, non-profitable, founded on the 15th June 1998, by a multinational group of translators and interpreters.
