Venezuela: Translators associations in the country of renowned writers and novelists

Venezuela is a tropical country on the northern coast of South America with an estimated population of around 30 million. The country is a federal presidential republic consisting of 23 states, the Capital District – covering Caracas –, and Federal Dependencies – covering Venezuela's offshore islands.

Colonized by Spain in 1522, Venezuela became the first Spanish American colony to declare independence.

Today, Venezuela is among the most urbanized countries in Latin America and is a cultural melting pot. There is more to Venezuelan art, of course, but Venezuelan literature originated soon after the Spanish conquest of the mostly pre-literate indigenous societies. Major writers and novelists include Rómulo Gallegos, Teresa de la Parra, Arturo Uslar Pietri, Adriano González León, Miguel Otero Silva, and Mariano Picón Salas.

A.C. CONALTI was born in 1981, which makes it the oldest interpreters and translators association in Venezuela.

From the same year is a translators association called AVINC. Founded in 1980 by members of the Venezuelan chapter of the International Association of Conference Interpreters, one year later, this translation association based in Caracas was registered as a non-profit organization under the Venezuelan law.
