Canada's east-central province is its largest by area. It is also Canada's second most populous province, after Ontario. Claims of independence have been debated throughout time. In 2006, the House of Commons of Canada passed a symbolic motion, recognising the "Québécois as a nation within a united Canada. The name "Québec" comes from the Algonquin word kébec meaning "where the river narrows". The population is of approximately 8 million people.

One of the most important interpreting and translation associations in the province is OTTIAQ. Another Québec translators association is the one that brings together students of translation from Concordia University, GSAT.
